We are excited to spotlight Erik Andersen, a BYU alumnus and Staff Software Engineer at YUM Brands, the world’s largest restaurant company!
Erik leads the eCommerce Platform team, where he designs and maintains resilient systems that power $8 billion in annual digital sales. Reflecting on this role, Erik shared about the challenges of building and maintaining complex, high-impact systems and the rewarding experience of leading impactful work that drives global innovation.
In addition to his work at YUM Brands, Erik is deeply involved in the tech community:
- Co-organizing the CYC Developer Conference and Dallas Software Developers, the largest developer meetup in the DFW Metroplex
- Hosting the Junior Jobs Podcast, where he helps new software engineers find their first job in tech
Erik credits much of his professional success to the foundational skills he gained at BYU, particularly in Database Design with Professor Gary Hansen and System Design with Professor Bonnie Anderson.
“Even a decade after graduating from BYU, I still reflect on and apply the lessons I learned there. Every year, they become more and more relevant!”
Looking Ahead:
Erik continues to drive innovation in the eCommerce space and support aspiring developers through his community involvement and podcast.
We are inspired by Erik’s leadership, dedication to growth, and commitment to giving back. We can’t wait to see his continued success!
