Web Development
Student Spotlight

Zach’s journey in the IS program has sparked a new passion for web development, which he is currently exploring as a potential career path. Inspired by his coursework, he has already taken on a real-world project—building a website for his brother’s sales training and development business.

Applying IS Skills at the MTC

At the Missionary Training Center (MTC), Zach has leveraged his technical knowledge to develop innovative solutions that improve efficiency and communication:

✅ Automated Reminder System – Using Google Apps Script and Google Cloud APIs, Zach built a tool that automates reminders through Google Chat and Gmail to help missionaries stay on top of important tasks and invitations. A few teachers are currently testing this system in their districts.

✅ Missionary Effort & Accountability Survey – To enhance teacher insights, Zach designed a weekly survey that tracks missionary effort, accountability, and needs. By automating formatting with formulas and conditional formatting in Google Sheets, he ensured clear, easy-to-read reports. This tool is now used by 15+ teachers, who have praised its effectiveness.

Zach’s Takeaway from the IS Program

The opportunity to use my technical skills in meaningful ways has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve loved combining my background in teaching and Spanish with the problem-solving skills I’ve gained in the IS program to support missionary development.

Looking Ahead

As Zach continues refining his skills and exploring web development, he is excited about the possibilities ahead. His drive to apply technology in meaningful ways will no doubt serve him well in his future career.

We are inspired by Zach’s dedication and innovation—best of luck on your journey!
