We are excited to spotlight Christian Sorensen, a junior in the Information Systems program at BYU!
Christian recently wrapped up a six-month internship with Voya Financial as an IT Intern, a role that was extended past its original three-month timeline. During his time at Voya, Christian focused on leveraging the data security tool Varonis to make a tangible impact within the company. His key achievements included:
- Troubleshooting and re-operationalizing the on-prem version of Varonis
- Meeting with IT Asset Owners to review role descriptions for 21 applications
- Establishing and operationalizing the company quarantine process for aged sensitive data
- Quarantining over 9,000 files and more than 19 GB of outdated sensitive data
- Scripting automations to streamline processes within his organization
- Assisting in the transition from an on-prem application to the SaaS version of Varonis
- Analyzing millions of rows of data and presenting findings to upper-level executives
- Earning two Varonis certifications
Reflecting on his internship, Christian shared:
“While I’m proud of these achievements, the most valuable lesson I’ve learned is how to work effectively with people. Building connections and collaborating with those around me has been the most rewarding part of my internship.”
Fun Fact:
When he's not analyzing data, Christian enjoys playing disc golf—especially when the weather is warm.
We are inspired by Christian’s dedication to growth, collaboration, and making a real impact. We can’t wait to see what he accomplishes next!
