After graduating from BYU with a degree in Information Systems, John went to Stanford University to earn his MBA. In 2021, he founded Leland, a company dedicated to helping people reach their educational goals. Just recently, they hit their 2 year anniversary from the day they started. Here's what he had to say about it:
"Wow, Leland is officially two years old! 🎉
What a journey it's been. Feels like we're always looking ahead to what's next, but today I took a minute this morning to reflect on how far we've come.
Two years ago we had...
- 2 of us full-time + a few part-time folks helping us build the MVP (I was in the middle of a 2 year MBA program)
- Just raised our $1.1M pre-seed round
- 30ish coaches on the platform in a single category (shout out to all the OG coaches, many who are still with us)
- 12 total coaching orders in all of July 2021
Today we have...
- Thousands of customers who've been accepted to their dream schools or companies across 20+ different categories (MBA, Management Consulting, IB, Undergrad, Med School, PM, and more)
- 300+ coaches that have collectively made millions of dollars through Leland, enabling them to support their families, pay off student loans, and in some cases, leave a full-time career to spend more time with their kids
- 10 amazing full-time team members
- Raised $5M+ from world-class investors (with plenty of runway in the bank)
- Hundreds of coaching orders in July (yay, more than 12!)—growing faster than ever before
