We are excited to spotlight Joseph Fuge, a student in the Master’s program of Information Systems at BYU!
Joseph has gained valuable industry experience through internships with NearTrade and SmackSocial, both of which he discovered on the AIS Slack channel. Reflecting on his journey, Joseph emphasized the importance of preparation and initiative in standing out during interviews:
- Showcasing extra effort outside of class to learn the technology stack
- Building side projects to demonstrate hands-on skills
These opportunities have taught Joseph key professional lessons:
- The importance of clearly defining requirements and implementations
- The value of paying attention to details in every aspect of a project
- Writing maintainable code that solves users' problems
Joseph shared this advice for fellow students:
“Anyone can learn a new programming language, but learning to write code that is easy to update and that actually solves the users' problems is a never-ending quest, so embrace the journey!”
Looking Ahead:
Joseph accepted a position at Blackhawk Network for Summer 2025 as a Technology Intern working on their backend server code in Java!
We are inspired by Joseph’s proactive approach to learning and dedication to continuous improvement. Good luck at Blackhawk Network!
