- Troubleshooting technical issues.
- Working with stakeholders to gather requirements.
- Setting up project management processes.
- Ensuring all work aligns with the overall strategy of the health system.
Sam is also involved in strategy discussions about the future state data architecture of the health system, which includes migrating from an on-prem to a cloud-based EDW and creating new processes for code review, version control, and overall development strategy.
Reflecting on his new position, Sam shared, "I really enjoy getting to know my team members better and helping them progress. I really love the team that I have right now, and it is fun working with them as a group to accomplish the work we are doing at our client."
More About Sam
Career Aspirations: "The field and technology around data and analytics are evolving all the time, so I expect to continue learning new tools and software and keeping updated on data best practices. One thing that won't change is the importance of working well with stakeholders to truly understand their needs and goals with the data."
Advice for Students: "Be open! Take advantage of any mentorship opportunities and have a positive attitude. Having experience in any field is better than none! Find people in your dream field of work and just ask about what they do and what tools they use."
Best Piece of Advice Received: "Knowing was a barrier which prevented learning” - Frank Herbert. Often times, people close themselves off from learning more. There are so many amazing things in this world that we can learn from. We should all keep our minds open and be curious to learn more."
Hobbies: "I'd love to go to Iceland. The pictures look beautiful, and it seems like such an amazing country to explore. A bucket list item of mine is to see the northern lights, so that would also need to happen on the trip!"
Favorite Superpower: "Teleportation. This would be great for long road trips and flights, but in reality, I'd mostly use it for when I forgot to get something at the store or realized I bought the wrong sprinkler part from Home Depot."
Historical Figure Dinner: "There are so many fascinating people I'd love to have dinner with. One that comes to mind is Louis Zamperini. I loved the book 'Unbroken' that was written about him, and it is one of the few books that I have read multiple times."
Sam loves being able to connect with students and help them learn more about Health Catalyst and the healthcare field in general!
If you are interested in learning more, connect with Sam and send him a message. We are proud of Sam's achievements and excited to see what the future holds!
