About the National Student Leadership Conference:The NSLC's Artificial Intelligence program is a 9-day conference at Johns Hopkins University, Duke University, and UC Berkeley that exposes talented high school students to the vast world of artificial intelligence and machine learning. We are seeking individuals with relevant academic and leadership experience to work with high school students and assist with residential life and administration.The Role:Teaching Assistants (TA's) guide students through their NSLC experience. Each TA is responsible for a small group of 12-16 students. TAs arrive on-site 5 days before student arrival to participate in a mandatory 4-day orientation & training. This training runs from 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM daily. Following training, TAs will work for 9-day sessions with a 3-day break in between. TAs work very long days and are expected to be ready to assist students at any point during the program. A typical day lasts from 9:00 AM - 10:30 PM.Responsibilities:Lead small group discussions and debriefingsTeach academic and leadership sessions, as well as set up and break-down activitiesAssist administrative staff, professionals, and leadership facilitators with program componentsServe as a chaperone during off-campus trips and evening social activitiesReside in the dormitory on the same floors as students, serving as a Resident AdvisorQualifications:TAs are generally current college students with a background and interest in artificial intelligenceNSLC has a primary focus on leadership development. The Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS) at the University of Maryland, College Park, is seeking outstanding undergraduate and graduate students to participate in the Research for Intelligence & Security Challenges (RISC) Initiative internship program. This 10-week paid and mostly virtual program pairs students with faculty mentors from INSURE consortium member institutions and the Department of Defense (DOD) and Intelligence Community (IC) and offers the opportunity to be sponsored for a security clearance and to be considered for future employment with the U.S. government.Competitively selected RISC interns (RISCers) work in teams with mentorship from university faculty and government practitioners, tackling real security and intelligence problems hands-on. Project topics will be posed by government operators, and supported with realistic data sets and other materials. Over the 10-week period, students will conduct research and participate in lectures and regular team development meetings in a shared virtual work environment. The summer program concludes with several days of in-person activities in College Park, MD to discuss project outcomes with peers and visiting experts from DOD/IC and to gain greater context on how the work fits into government sponsors' mission space.The program is structured to facilitate interactions within teams, between teams, and with government sponsor representatives.
